Comenzó la ceremonia principal de los Premios Emmy, y la competencia parece particularmente reñida en esta edición. Severance, El Pingüino y The White Lotus son las series más nominadas este año. Se espera que Apple TV+ sea de los grandes ganadores de la noche, con su serie de sátira de Hollywood The Studio y el drama laboral Severance como principales favoritos.
El premio de la Academia de Artes y Ciencias de la Televisión estadounidense reconoce a lo mejor de la programación en horario estelar.
La primera ceremonia de los Emmy se celebró el 25 de enero de 1949 en el Hollywood Athletic Club, pero solo premió a los programas emitidos en Los Angeles. El nombre «Emmy» se inspiró en Immy, el apodo del tubo de imagen de una cámara de televisión. La estatua del Emmy representa a una mujer alada sosteniendo un átomo.
La 77ª ceremonia se celebra en el Peacock Theater en Los Angeles, con transmisión para la Argentina por TNT y HBO Max. El comediante Nate Bargatze es el anfitrión.
